Day 9 - Personal Devotional

Day 9

Five days to more accurate and powerful praying.

Pray with a sincere heart:  Matthew 6:5-6; Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people.  I tell you, they have their reward.  But when you pray, you go into your private room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret.  And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Our public faith must be born out of our private faith and devotion to Jesus.  Our prayers won’t work if our hearts are more concerned with what others think about us, rather than what God knows about you.  Our private lives must order the rest of our lives.  Now Jesus wasn’t saying we can’t pray with others, or in a public setting like church or prayer group, but if that is the only time we pray, we may not receive the answers we are looking for.  The secret to prayer is secret prayer.  Secret prayer is born of a heart that wants intimacy with Jesus.  Secret prayer is not just talking to the Lord, but listening and waiting.  Pray today that God would lead to a level of faith where secret prayer, just your and the Lord, is your most anticipated and guarded time of the day, and that in his presence you find the greatest joy!
