Day 14 - Personal Devotional
We are now 2/3’s the way through or 21 days of fasting and prayer. I hope it has been a good time for you to remove some of the self indulgence that food, pleasure and entertainment is constantly demanding, and that as you have looked to God you have found him sweeter than the finest foods!
Setting aside these days will remind us of what is really important, and what needs our time and focus. I saw this facebook post on Pastor Sarah’s facebook the other day. She wrote; ’’Instead of saying ‘I don’t have time’ try saying ‘it’s not a priority,’ and see how that feels.” That kind of truth can sting a little.
How often do we say, “I wish I could….., but I just don’t have the time….?” If we were honest, it may sound more like, “Prayer is not a priority. Time with the Lord and reading his Word, is not a priority.”
One of my favourite lines from a song is by Canadian Icon, Bruce Cockburn, Lovers in the Dangerous Time; Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight, you’ve gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
That is so true. If it is worth having, it will take effort, determination and adjusting our lives to obtain it. I trust that by this point in our 21 week journey you will be able to testify, ‘Fasting was a fight. Making time and sacrificing in my busy, over stimulated life was like kicking against well ingrained habits and priorities; but it was worth it. The greater intimacy with Jesus, time in Holy Spirit’s presence, increased answers to prayer and greater anointing and authority are worth any sacrifice I have had to make. So let’s not give up, let’s keep pressing in for another week, and beyond our 21 days let’s determine to live by priorities that will lead us to abundant life.
Jeremiah 29:13; “You will seek me and find me whey search for me with all your heart. 14. I will be found by you” - this is the Lord’s declaration - “and I will restore your fortunes.”
