Day 19 - Personal Devotional

John 1:35. The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.  36.  When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”   John 1:37;  When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.  38. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”  They said, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), where are you staying?  39. “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”  So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him.

We find out a few verses later that one of these two men was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.  After this encounter with Jesus they go and find their friends and tell them, “We have found the Messiah.”  What convinced them beyond a shadow of a doubt about Jesus identity was the time they spent with him.  John had been declaring that Jesus was so much greater than he was;  that Jesus was the one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire and take away the sins of the world.  But John’s declarations of Jesus weren’t enough, it was only when they encountered the Lord for themselves did they become convinced.

As our 21 Days draw to a close, my prayer for you is that all of us will continue to spend time in Jesus presence getting to know his heart and mind.  As good as preaching is, devotionals, youtube or podcasts with Bible teaching, there is no substitute to time alone with the Lord.  It is time in the secret place that empowers us for our public ministry and life.

Jesus still asks today, “What do you want?”  If our answer is simply, “You Jesus” he is always waiting and willing to fellowship with us!  Find the joy that Christ himself and that joy will strengthen and sustain you.
